John B. Kelly, III
President, Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation USA
Principal, Ben Franklin Development
John B. Kelly III — known as JB — serves as the President of the US Chapter of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, an environmental organization focused on climate change, polar and ocean issues, biodiversity, and clean drinking water. The Prince Albert Foundation was founded to combat the degradation of our environment by supporting research to find better ways of doing things that can maintain and improve our standard of living in an environmentally sustainable way.
As Principal at Ben Franklin Development, JB is a business and project finance advisor. Current assignments include serving as part-time CFO for Philadelphia-based clothing manufacturer Boathouse Sports, and advising two project finance clients on their alternative energy/materials projects.
Prior to starting Ben Franklin Development, JB spent 35 years in finance for Janney Montgomery Scott, PNC Bank, and Public Financial Management, the last 20 of which were as a municipal bond investment banker or municipal finance advisor. He has worked with public-private partnerships, municipal and state credits, and alternative energy projects. These have included various waste-to-energy projects, the privatization of the energy infrastructure at the University of Maryland, three waste-coal-fired PURPA projects, and a private solar project on public school property, as well as more traditional municipal and state financings in the transportation and utility sectors. Through his municipal finance work, he has worked with various state-level financing bodies in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Connecticut, and Florida.
In addition, JB serves on the Board of Directors of the Fairmount Park Conservancy, the community organization that raises funds and manages public-private improvements to the parks in Philadelphia.
He received his BA in Economics from Harvard.
