BlueNalu Launches “Eat Blue” Educational Platform
Similar to “go green” initiative, with a focus on ocean sustainability

November 4, 2019—San Diego, Calif. BlueNalu, a leading innovative food company developing seafood directly from fish cells, launched Eat Blue™, an educational platform promoting and creating content that celebrates life below water, while encouraging increased consumption of responsibly-sourced and sustainable seafood.

BlueNalu’s goal is to highlight case studies of success for sustainable development and species conservation and provide a platform for global ambassadors to share their original stories of ocean optimism. Similar to the “go green” initiative in the early 2000s, Eat Blue™ aims to inspire a generation of informed consumers to enjoy their seafood without compromising their commitment to sustainability.

"As a company dedicated to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 14 to conserve life below water, we understand that real change happens because the market responds to a generation of enlightened consumers," said Lou Cooperhouse, co-founder, president, and CEO of BlueNalu. "We recognize the urgency of our mission so Eat Blue™ is about honoring the responsible fisher, the ocean explorer, the innovator and entrepreneur, the scientist and policymaker, and everyday consumers who contribute to a sustainable seafood system. It is critical that all of us make conscious efforts that support and impact the sustainability, health, and biodiversity of our ocean.”

The campaign was launched at Eat Think Drink in Honolulu (ETD), a quarterly event organized by Hawaii Agricultural Foundation that brings together consumers, investors, chefs and food industry experts to explore the future of food. BlueNalu has its origins at the inaugural ETD conference in November of 2017, where Lou Cooperhouse spoke about the global and transformative opportunity that can result from cell-based seafood.

“We are so happy to have Lou Cooperhouse as our keynote speaker again at our Eat Think Drink conference, and excited about the tremendous growth that BlueNalu has experienced since Lou spoke here just two years ago.  BlueNalu’s Eat Blue campaign brings ‘Life Below Water’ to the international conversation about global sustainability,” said Denise Yamaguchi, CEO, Hawaii Wine and Food Festival and executive director, Hawaii Agricultural Foundation. “Education is the first step in bringing us to a place of passionate sustainability and much needed innovation. As a life-long educator, bringing the world’s best ideas under one roof in a positive, motivational way is exactly what we need.”

The launch of the Eat Blue™ website marks the initial phase of the campaign. The website aggregates original content and published articles from multiple trusted third-party sources to promote ocean health, human health, animal welfare and the economic impact of sustainable seafood.

New partnerships with leading organizations and an expanded network of diverse global ambassadors will be announced.  Eat Blue™ ambassadors will be invited to share their journey through a global multimedia platform and help shape the future of sustainable seafood. Ambassadors will be influencers, thought-leaders and subject matter experts from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about sustainable development.

“More people are asking chefs about their favorite fish and want to know if it’s high in mercury, whether it was wild-caught or farm-raised humanely and how it compares with other fish in terms of sustainability,” said Roy Yamaguchi, celebrity chef, BlueNalu advisory board member, and founder of Roy’s Restaurants. “As a chef, I can distill and dish that sentiment into two words - Eat Blue™.”

“At BlueNalu, we know that people want more than just great tasting, affordable food,” Cooperhouse said.  “They want to connect the food they eat to the world in which they live, and that’s what Eat Blue™ is all about.”
